What Is Mahjong Ways and What Makes It Unique?
Mahjong is one of Asia's most beloved board games — a familiar tile-based game traditionally played by four people. PG Soft has taken that classic and reimagined it entirely as Mahjong Ways. But this is nothing like the traditional game — it's a modern Megaways slot where the reel size changes randomly with every spin, and the number of active payways is different each time.
Regular slots come with a fixed 20 or 25 paylines. Mahjong Ways is different — each reel can hold anywhere from 2 to 7 symbols per spin, creating up to 5,088 payways at once. That's the Megaways engine, and it's exactly what makes this game so exhilarating.
Many players are struck right away by Mahjong Ways on hehe 56 — the visuals are genuinely impressive. The blend of Japanese and Chinese aesthetics, soothing background music, and classic mahjong tile designs come together to create something that feels truly immersive. For a lot of players, it's that visual experience that keeps them coming back.
How Does the Megaways Engine Work?
Megaways means each reel can randomly display a different number of symbols per spin. Mahjong Ways features 6 reels. On any given spin, the first reel might show 3 symbols, the second 5, the third 7 — and so on, changing every time. Your total payways are calculated by multiplying the number of symbols on each reel together. Simply put: the more symbols on the reels, the more ways you have to win.
